In my recent social media posts I have been talking a lot about trends for 2021. Let's continue on that vein in today's Blog and take a look specifically at what trends we will be seeing for lighting next year.
One thing that will always remain on trend is the use of proper lighting in a room. Remember that the use of all three types of lighting: ambient, task, and accent lighting will make your room both inviting and functional. My Blog on Lighting Your Home will provide you with lots of tips on correctly using all three types of lighting in your home.
Transparent Bulbs
One of the trends that will still remain next year is the use of a simple transparent bulb. These fixtures are stylish, affordable and when used with a warm tone bulb, can create a cozy and inviting environment.
Soft Metalic
As with the colours we will be seeing next year, so will our metals be a warmer and softer tone. This will show up in lighting fixtures, coffee tables, chairs, frames, anywhere in your home that metals can be used you will start to see the trend to warmer, softer metallics including the use of finishes for lighting.
Organic Materials
You will be seeing the use of more warm, natural and nature focus colours and that focus will also begin to show up in the materials we see being using in lighting as well.
We will begin to see the use of more wood, stone, marble, leather, and bamboo in lighting fixtures. This is a nod toward the trend of all things nature. The use of these materials create a calm and harmonious environment. Organic materials pair nicely with modern contemporary decor as well.
Circles and Spheres
What will make circle and sphere light fixtures unique in 2021 is the materials that they are made from. You will start to see the use of unique and exclusive materials. High quality glass and various metals will be used, all having interesting and varied textures and designs.
Statement Pieces
Yes, that's feathers! Ok, so maybe you aren't ready to commit to a dining room chandelier with feathers, but go ahead and have some fun with a small accent piece such as this table lamp.
Or how about making a quieter statement with this weathered brass metal drum chandelier that is quietly whispers "Look at me. I'm gorgeous!".
Abstract Geometric Shapes
You may have already seen this trend in 2019/2020 and will continue to see the use of bold abstract and geometric shapes in 2021. These fixtures are often bold and stunning with clear lines and a refined form.
They will work well in your contemporary decor, but will also pair nicely with the use of soft organic and natural materials.
Gold Metal and Monochrome
I am excited to say that 2021 will show a trend toward the use of gold coloured metals in combination with a monochromatic colour such as black. I have always loved this combination and can not wait to use more of it in my designs. There is something stunning about the richness of warm brass against a velvety black. This combination oozes glamour!
Fixtures With Combined Materials
There will be the combining of lots of materials, textures and colours in our 2021 decor and lighting is no exception. The light fixture above is a great example with a unique combination of crystal, hemp rope, and silver being used. Woods, steel, ceramic, crystal, various metal combinations being used together are all an example of the combinations of materials we will be seeing used in lighting fixtures in the coming year.
These are just a few of the wonderful lighting fixture examples that we will have in store for us in 2021. I can't wait for the trend setters to unveil more to us. This should be exciting!
In a world full of beauty….
